Community leaders have welcomed news of the success of the Million for Manorlands appeal.

Keighley MP Kris Hopkins said: “This is absolutely tremendous news.

“Manorlands holds a very special place in the hearts of so many in this area and is the most worthy of causes to support.

“To raise £1 million in such a relatively short space of time is nothing short of remarkable, and is a wonderful tribute to the staff at Manorlands and the generosity of local people.”

His Commons colleague, Philip Davies, said many people in his Shipley constituency – which includes Cullingworth and Denholme – have benefited from the care and support provided by Manorlands.

“I would like to congratulate the Keighley News and the generosity of its readers for hitting such an ambitious target – it is an amazing achievement,” he told us.

Keighley town mayor Coun Sally Walker said: “Manorlands is the mainstay for cancer patients in this area, and anything people can do to raise money to keep the hospice going is wonderful. It is fantastic, especially in these times of cuts, that the target has been reached.”

Lord Mayor of Bradford Keighley councillor Khadim Hussain said he had visited Manorlands and seen at first-hand the work it does.

“The quality of care it provides is outstanding, and it is a credit to Manorlands such a massive appeal target has been reached,” he said.
