Morton in Bloom is ‘growing for gold’.

The group is joining thousands of others across the country in a mass planting of sunflower seeds, celebrating the 50th anniversary of RHS Britain in Bloom.

The event is at the village institute from 2pm to 4pm on April 17.

“Everyone is welcome to join us in planting the seeds – bring along any small plant pots you have spare,” said a Morton in Bloom spokesman.

“People can either take their sunflower away to grow on or we will look after it. We aim to plant the growing sunflowers on the recreation ground later in the year.”

Tea and cake will be on offer during next week’s event.

Morton in Bloom was formed by volunteers in 2008 to enhance the village with flowers and plants.

It maintains the village green beds, sites at the entrances to Morton and planters and baskets.
