Councillors were yesterday due to decide on an application to demolish buildings and construct three new homes off Skipton Road in Utley.

The application relates to a disused plot of land next to Skipton Road and Utley Cemetery.

Bradford District Council officers have recommended the proposals be approved. They say the development would not harm the heritage of the nearby graveyard, noting the two buildings to be demolished are unattractive and in poor condition.

However, five objections to the plans warn the new homes would result in a loss of privacy for neighbouring residents and cause access problems for vehicles.

They also argue the properties form part of the history of the cemetery and should be conserved instead of destroyed.
