Tribute is paid in a new book to a Keighley firefighter who died in the line of duty.
Jeff Naylor died in hospital ten weeks after being badly injured as he and colleagues battled to rescue five trapped children from a blazing house in Broomhill Walk, Keighley.
Two of the youngsters died, but the other three were saved.
Mr Naylor – who posthumously received the Queen’s Commend-ation for Bravery after the 1983 incident – is remembered in Images Of Fire, which charts major blazes tackled by West Yorkshire fire crews during the past four decades.
The book, which also looks back in time at how the brigade has evolved through technological and cultural changes, has been released to mark the 40 years since seven city/county borough brigades amalgamated to form the present-day service.
West Yorkshire Chief Fire Officer, Simon Pilling, said: “Images Of Fire is dedicated to all the men and women who have helped provide and deliver a tremendous service to the county during the past 40 years.”
The book was compiled by a small team at West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service working with former Devon Chief Fire Officer, Neil Wallington, a prolific writer about the work of the brigade.
