A sports club for disabled children is to be revived with cash from Keighley Area Committee.

Bradford Disability Sports & Leisure (BDSL) will move the Saturday sessions to Keighley.

The club, which caters for eight to 18-year-olds, ran for several years in Cottingley and attracted youngsters from across the district.

The club folded last year due to lack of money and leaders, but a £500 grant will enable sessions to begin soon in Keighley. The new Junior Academy will run from 11am to 1pm at University Academy Keighley in Beechcliffe.

Keighley Area Committee chairman Councillor Steve Pullen said he was delighted to be able to help disabled people.

He added: “We hope the young athletes will go on and take part in competitions locally and nationally.”

BDSL already runs Wednesday sports sessions at UAK for disabled teenagers, including Paralympics, athletics and karate. Contact Dean Carroll on 01274 437093 or e-mail bsr@btconnect.com.
