Keighley’s main post office will relocate in the town’s WH Smith store next week.
The Towngate premises will close on Wednesday and the new facility will open the following day.
Campaigners fought unsuccessfully to keep the existing post office, claiming axeing it would be a disaster for the town.
They feared the move would lead to an inferior service and that there would be insufficient room within the WH Smith store in the Airedale Shopping Centre for postal provision.
But Post Office Ltd says the layout of the books and stationery store is being reconfigured to create space for seven counters and a queue area.
Shopping centre manager Steve Seymour said he was pleased post office provision was being retained in the town centre.
“If we had lost the post office altogether it would have been criminal,” he said.
