Politicians in the Keighley area are again being given £9,000 of Bradford Council cash to spend in each ward.

The three district councillors who represent each ward will together decide how to spend their share of the £60,000 budget.

The money must be spent on activities and projects that meet priorities in Keighley Area Committee’s action plan for each ward.

The committee last week agreed to repeat last year’s policy of giving £9,000 to each of the six wards in the Keighley constituency.

The remaining £6,000, plus £5,000 underspend from last year’s budget, will be allocated to initiatives that benefit the whole of Keighley.

The ward action plans aim to improve the quality of life for local people, and look at issues such as health, the environment, community safety, housing, the economy and young people.

The plans are devised by a team of workers from several public agencies, including Bradford Council and the police, as well as ward councillors.

Last year’s budget was spent on more than 60 projects.

Among those benefiting were community groups in Riddlesden, East Morton, Dalton Lane, Parkwood, Woodhouse, Haworth, Oakworth, Showfield, Silsden and Braithwaite.
