The morning event will begin at 10.30am with coffee. The congregation will be joined by the Friendship Circle day care for older people who meet on the premises each Thursday. Wednesday: Upper Worth Valley History Group last of six historic guided walks from Cowling at 10.45am to Haworth. The 663 bus at 9.40 am from Haworth to Keighley connects with the 25 bus from Keighley at 10.15 am which gets to Cowling Methodist Burial Ground, the starting point near junction of Gill Lane and Keighley Road. Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council’s Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group hold their final Public Consultation Meeting at West Lane Methodist Church from 7pm to 9 pm. More information can be found on www.haworthcrossroadsstanburyndp. org.uk The Worth Valley Manorlanders Fundraising Support Group hosted the well known local historian and raconteur, Ian Dewhirst, on Friday, when he spoke to an audience of about 70 on Tales of Old Haworth at the Haworth Parish Church Hall. It raised £420 for Manorlands. The evening was arranged and hosted by Judy Newiss who gave the vote of thanks.

The next meeting of Haworth and Oxenhope District Bridleways Group will be next Tuesday, April 22, at 8pm, preceded by a junior meeting at 6.45pm. The talk will be given by The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Membership subscriptions for 2014 are now due Meetings are held monthly, at the Old White Lion Hotel, Haworth at 8 pm, preceded by a junior meeting at 6.45 pm. The first organised ride of the year will be held on Saturday, on Penistone Hill, beginning at the top car park. The service for the trial period will be free’ Haworth Tennis Club held its annual meeting on Saturday. Jens Hislop was re-elected as chairman and honorary secretary. The court locks have been changed so the new key is purple, which can be exchanged for last year’s red key on renewal of membership. A club social afternoon has been planned for Sunday, April 27. Hopefully this will take place on every last Sunday of the month during the summer.

Haworth In Bloom’s new website, donated by Graham Smith of Bronte Media, is now live and can be viewed at www.haworthinbloom.co.uk with a link to the village web site. The Spring judging was on Tuesday, April 8. A leaflet promoting the new group has been printed and is available for distribution. The Contact Point includes the leaflet in its next distribution of The Haworth News in April, to those residents along the route that the Judges too.

Churches Together in Haworth and Cross Roads are re-cycling unwanted goods including clothes (not underwear) curtains, bedding, bric-a-brac, books and small furniture to sell for Christian Aid on Main Street from May 11 to 17. Call Kathleen Milne on 01535 645990 for more details about this group.

The Worth Valley Young Farmer’s Club meeting this week was pig judging at Marsh Top Meats on Marsh Lane Oxenhope. Worth Valley members were able to brush up on their pig judging skills. Visit the group’s website at www.worthvalley.org.

Haworth Riding For the Disabled is asking for voluntary help for a couple of hours each week on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 10am to noon or on Saturdays from 9.15am to 1.25 pm. Call (01535) 649448.

Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club meets at the Old Silent Inn Stanbury for a meal every Tuesday at 8pm (but not Tuesdays following a bank holiday). Usually they have a guest speaker. Recently the Rotarians have been running a ‘contact the elderly’. This is to invite the elderly to afternoon teas once a month on a Sunday afternoon. Haworth Parish Church morning prayer is held in St James’ Church, Cross Roads Cum Lees at 9.30am on Mondays, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at St Michael’s Church, Haworth, at 9.30am. Mid-week holy communion is held in St James’ Church on Wednesdays at 9.30am.

CarelinK befriending scheme can provide support and companionship to older people who live alone and do not have many visitors. CarelinK can arrange for one of its volunteer befrienders to visit each week for a cuppa and a chat, or perhaps to take a short walk together. Volunteers are police checked and vetted. Haworth Parkside Social Club hosts sequence dancing at Parkside Social club, Butt Lane, Haworth, every Wednesday 8pm to 10.30 pm. The dancing is fun and newcomers are made very welcome. Some of the dances are easy to pick up while others are more challenging. Call (01535) 647675. A chess club meets on Thursdays for beginners to advanced. They are looking for people to join teams for snooker, dominoes (3s and 5s) and pool, including a new women’s team. Supper will be provided for players. Pool for beginners and improvers is from 5pm.
