Churches Together in Silsden are marking Good Friday with a short service in each of its member Churches commencing at 10.30am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel then walking to St James Church and finishing at the Methodist Church. All welcome to join.
The Proms on the Farm team present Inn Jeopardy with Country & Western and Folk music from the 60s, 70s and 80s at Silsden Golf Club from 7.30pm on Saturday. Admission is £6 and proceeds will be split between Silsden Methodist Church and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Tickets from Twiggs newsagents on Kirkgate, Silsden.
On Easter Sunday the annual Sunrise Service will take place on Farnhill Pinnacle at 7am. Then trek back to the Sunday School in Farnhill for a drink and hot cross bun.
Donations of tinned and non perishable foodstuffs will be gratefully received at our three churches, any Sunday morning, and at Silsden Methodists refreshment area, on Tuesday – Friday 9.30am – 11.30am. Run by Churches Together in Silsden and supporting local food banks.
A diary has been placed in Silsden Library for organisations to record the dates of any special events they are running; this is particularly relevant to coffee mornings, in order to avoid a number of them being held on the same day. Just ask at the library desk and you will be given the diary to check dates and make your own entry.
Take One youth drama group meets every Wednesday night in the Gloucester Avenue community centre from 5.30pm to 7pm. Meet and make friends while learning some great stage skills and get the chance to perform on stage. Call David Hardman on (01535) 657249.
Church Services take place each week on Sundays: St James Church 8.30am Traditional (Book of Common Prayer) Communion Service; 10.30am Parish Communion with children’s workshop and creche. Methodist Church. 10.30am Morning Family Worship; 6pm evening service. Our Lady of Mount Carmel. 11am Holy Communion Shoppers Service at the Methodist Church – 20 minutes on a Friday morning at 10.30am for all denominations.
1st Silsden is a thriving group based at St James church in Silsden and meets Friday evenings. The Group currently consists of Beavers, age 6-8, Cubs, age 8-10, and Scouts,age 10 – 14, each holding separate meetings alongside activity days and camps throughout the year. Call in for further details Slimming groups in Silsden include Slimming World on Tuesday with meetings at the Youth Centre at 9.30am and St James Church at 5pm and 7.00pm with Anne contact 07935 417214 and Weight Watchers at the Methodist Church on Wednesdays at 6.30pm with Denise.
Seidokan Karate groups run in the Town Hall on Monday and Wednesday for all ages between 6pm and 8pm – call in for more information or contact 01535 656578. For the time being these are being held at the Youth Centre on Elliott Street.
