Pupils on stage at St George’s Hall for prom night
12:30pm Saturday 19th April 2014 in News
Children from Oakworth, Harden, East Morton and Cullingworth performed last week at St George’s Hall in Bradford.
Pupils from the village primary schools were among hundreds of youngsters taking part in the annual Schools Prom.
The Harden and Oakworth pupils were among a 260-strong primary school chorus which performed during the first of the two evening concerts.
The second night’s primary school chorus included children from Cullingworth and East Morton schools.
The prom, organised by Bradford Council's arts and music service, also saw choirs, bands, orchestras and soloists perform. The event was compered by TV presenter David Payne. The prom, now in its 13th year, gives children a chance to perform on the same stage as many major orchestras, bands and recording stars.
Felicity French, the council’s head of ensemble provision, said: “This event provides the opportunity for as many children as possible to perform in the most prestigious stage in Bradford.
“Some might not get the chance to perform on a stage like this again. It is a wonderful opportunity to have.”
Coun Ralph Berry, executive member for children’s services at the council, said: “The prom is always a well-attended, hugely successful event and we are so proud to host it each year and demonstrate the support which is given to schools and pupils to embrace this talent.”
