Organisers of this summer’s Oxen-hope Straw Race hope to be able to confirm where the event will start by next month.
The popular event will be going ahead on July 13 despite the closure of the pub that usually hosts the beginning of the race.
Organisers were informed in February the Waggon and Horses pub in Hebden Bridge Road had closed and was on the market.
Jane Barrett, of the race’s organising committee, this week said: “We’ve got a meeting on Monday to discuss possibilities for the start – we’ll make a definite decision by mid-May.
“We may have to move the start, or we may have new tenants in the Waggon by then, in which case we may not have to move.
“Entries for the race are now open via our strawrace.com website. If they have any problems, they can contact me via e-mail at janembarrett69@gmail.com or on 07759 516556.
“We had about 230 teams taking part last year and we can take a maximum of 250. We’re all ready to roll and we’ve got our road closures application in, we just need to confirm the start.”
