Keighley cheerleader Siân Reid narrowly missed the top prize during her first competition at Disneyland Paris.

The 15-year-old Holy Family School student lost out to a cheerleader from Casablanca during the Future Cheer Brings It On tournament.

But there was joy for Siân and her 62 Panache Cheerschool team-mates as they became the most successful-ever UK team in the annual contest Siân said it was magical competing at Disneyland Paris, and she was very proud to come second in her solo section.

She added: “I wasn’t nervous, I was too excited. There is nothing like being behind the scenes at Disneyland.

“I worked very hard for hours each day for months to get ready.”

Siân was among cheerleaders who danced past hundreds of people in the Disney Parade.

Siân and team-mate Elle-Jayne Peel later reprised the duo routine that last month won them a first in the British cheerleading championships in Blackpool.

Siân added: “We performed in front of a big audience at one of the Disneyland hotels and everyone stood up and cheered when we had finished.

“In the airport there and back we were cheering and throwing each other in the air and doing walkovers and other stunts.”

Siân has been chosen as a member of the English team in the European Cheerleading Championships in Germany in June.

She successfully auditioned this month to be an Elite cheerleader for the Rugby Super League Magic Weekend at the Etihad Stadium next month.
