The Friends of Keighley (Redcar) Tarn are planning their first open day at the popular beauty spot.

The May 30 event will feature several information stalls showcasing the Friends’ many ideas to improve the area.

Friends members will lead guided walks informing people about the wildfowl that use the hilltop lake.

All people are welcome to go along between 2pm and 8pm.

The Friends have also announced another public meeting, where people can put forward their ideas about improving the tarn. It will be at Keighley Civic Centre in North Street at 7.30pm on May 19.

District councillor Jan Smithies, who is supporting the Friends, said the group would welcome anyone who is interested in Keighley Tarn.

She said: “They can simply be members of the Friends, they don’t have to come to committee meetings.”

Coun Smithies said Friends were ready to launch sub-groups working on separate issues. One group is exploring road safety and a potential new pavement in Black Hill Lane, and the other is considering wildlife and environmental issues.
