A book about military heroism signed by its Conser-vative politician author will be auctioned off for charity at next month’s Haworth 1940s Weekend.

The signed new copy of Special Forces Heroes by Lord Michael Ashcroft has been given to the weekend’s organising committee.

They received the book after Worth Valley ward councillor Glen Miller – himself a former soldier – asked Lord Ashcroft if he was prepared to provide a signed copy of the book for a good cause.

Coun Miller added: “He said ‘not a problem’, and a copy of the book arrived in the post a few days later. He doesn’t sign things very often.”

The book will be auctioned off on May 17 in aid of the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).

Nikki Carroll, of the Haworth 1940s organising committee, said: “We wish to thank both Lord Ashcroft and Coun Miller for this kind donation, which we are delighted to receive.”
