Finance worker Chris Wilson ensured romance stayed on track – by proposing aboard a steam train.

He popped the question to girlfriend Ola Kowalczyk while travelling on the famous Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

And the ‘steamy affair’ ended happily when Poland-born Ola said ‘yes’.

“I wanted to do something a bit different to propose and I thought why not on the railway?” said Chris, 29.

“We’d been to Haworth before and it was beautiful and romantic – in fact, one of our first dates was to travel there on a steam train, and we then walked up onto the moors. It was gorgeous.”

Chris said he and Ola, 28, who began dating just over a year ago, had already agreed to get engaged and chosen her ring together.

But she had no idea when and where he was planning to spring the eternal question.

“When I contacted the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway they were fantastic right from the start and reserved a place for us on a carriage,” he said.

“Ola had absolutely no clue what was going to happen. The ring box was quite large and all that day I’d desperately been trying to keep it hidden from her – it wasn’t easy!

“When we were on the train I went down on one knee and asked her to marry me. Fortunately, she agreed!

“We arrived at Oxenhope Station and there was a table ready for us, with flowers and champagne on ice.

“Ola even had a chance to pull the loco whistle and we were given a tour of the museum.

“Everybody made it so special for us. They were amazing.”

The couple, who live at Calverley, are still to decide on a date for the wedding.

“But the railway has said it is quite happy to cater for us!” added Chris.
