Laycock WI president Barbara welcomed members to last Thursday’s meeting and thanked everyone who had supported the coffee morning at Cross Hills on March 29 when an impressive £211 was raised. Reminders were made regarding the spring ramble at Morton on Saturday, group rally at Morton on June 14, group trip on June 11 and the annual meeting at Leeds Arena on June 7. The group is also doing catering events at West Lane Baptist Church on June 11 – a request for cakes and buns was made. The speaker, Yvonne, of Pinny’s Pots, was then introduced. She gave a fascinating talk and demonstration of painting and decorating terracotta plant pots using cut-out shapes from paper napkins. The results were spectacular and the group was presented with a pot with the institute’s name on, which Yvonne had decorated with teacups and buns. The vote of thanks was given by Julie Glentworth and competition winners were: 1 Sue Marsden and 2 Chris Moore.

The next meeting will be on May 15, with speaker Louise Percival on acupuncture. The competition is for a pin cushion and supper hostesses will be Jane Allen and Julie Glentworth.
