Hundreds of people have enjoyed sampling some of the many tipples on offer at the third Haworth Beer Festival.

The occasion, which was staged over three days at the Old School Room in Haworth, was again organised by Stanbury resident Kath Thornton.

“It was the most successful festival so far,” she said. “The feedback I’ve had has been amazing.

“We had 37 beers from all over the country, and the Saturday was very busy, with a really good mix of people of all ages.

“I hadn’t been planning to do anything on Sunday as well, but we still had some beers left, so we sold those for a pound a pint, with the proceeds to go to Manorlands.”

She added the first beer to run out was Goldilocks from Keighley’s Old Bear brewery, while the most popular beer – chosen through a public vote during the festival – was Green Devil, produced by Oakham Brewery.

The event – held last Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – included a quiz, food and a corporate networking function.

Miss Thornton thanked friends and family members who helped her stage the festival, including Rosie Thornhill, who served as bar manager. She also praised caterers, Jake’s Place.

She said she appreciated the opportunity to support the Old School Room as a venue, and intended to continue staging the festival there.

“Bigger isn’t always better, and people like the festival where it is,” she said. “If it was in a marquee it would not be the same atmosphere.”

Miss Thornton said the original idea for the event had grown out of her work running a business networking organisation.

“I thought at the time the Old School was being underused, and I wanted to do something to help support it and put it on the map,” she added.
