A day to promote the importance of ethical trade will be celebrated in Keighley town centre this weekend.
Airedale Shopping Centre will host a variety of activities from 10am to 3pm on Saturday to mark World Fairtrade Day.
The Fairtrade Keighley group is laying on stalls where shoppers can sample a range of ethically-sourced products.
Fairtrade Keighley administrator Steph Bottomley added she and her colleagues will be handing out Fairtrade shopping bags and a directory listing all the local businesses that sell or use Fairtrade goods.
“The mayor of Keighley has been invited to attend the event,” she said.
“We’re doing very well with the Fair-trade goals we’ve been set. We’re still looking to encourage more community groups and schools to get involved, and our steering group has grown and developed.”
Keighley was awarded Fairtrade Town status last year after volunteers, backed by Keighley Town Centre Association, worked with businesses, schools and community groups to meet the tough qualifying criteria.
Haworth was declared the first Fairtrade Village in the world in 2002. And if the weather is good on Saturday, there will be face painting outside Sonia’s Smile in Main Street to celebrate World Fairtrade Day.
