Keighley MP Kris Hopkins is backing to a campaign to create a ‘walking Britain’.

He voiced his support during a West-minster reception hosted by the Ramblers, promoting the benefits of walking and pushing for the issue to be on the agenda ahead of the next general election.

Nicky Philpott, for the group, said: “Walking offers an effective, low-cost solution to many of the problems we face.

“It’s good for our mental and physical health and, therefore, reduces healthcare costs, supports local economies and is good for the environment and your local neighbourhood. We’d like to thank Kris for joining us to talk about how we can build a walking Britain.”

Mr Hopkins said: “Keighley and Ilkley is a constituency renowned for the magnificence of our surrounds.

“I am never happier than when I’m walking on the moors. The benefits to body and mind are unrivalled, and it is important we do all we can to promote walking as an activity.”
