Keighley’s MP has welcomed news the nation’s economy grew by 0.8 per cent in the past three months and 3.1 per cent during the past year.
Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics also showed all three main sectors of the economy – manufacturing, services and construction – have grown by at least three per cent in the past 12 months.
Kris Hopkins said: “These statistics serve as further evidence businesses are growing in confidence, jobs are being created and more individuals and families are feeling the benefits.”
He also backed the Help to Work scheme, which requires claimants to meet with a Jobcentre Plus adviser every day or take part in a community work placement.
Mr Hopkins said: “We must address the particular issues surrounding individuals who are persistently stuck on benefits, often for many years.”
