Keighley’s MP has raided his toolbox to put together a larger-than-life installation to celebrate the Tour de France.

Kris Hopkins has built the plywood bicycle shape – painted in the Tour’s signature colour of yellow – to display on his Haworth home. He plans to put his creation in place a month before the Grand Depart riders pass close to his house.

“Lots of people will be making the effort to decorate their homes,” he said. “This is the biggest annual spectator event in the world, which is coming right past the end of our street, and it’ll be a great boost for businesses and the wider community.

“Before the last Olym-pics, no-one anticipated the carnival atmosphere we had accompanying the torch going through the centre of Keighley, and we have the chance for a similar response to the Tour de France.

“We’ll probably never see this event go through our area again, so we should make the most of it.”
