A Keighley event will focus on the opportunities being created for sport and leisure by this summer’s arrival of the Tour de France.

The Active Bradford Partnership (ABP) – comprising groups committed to raising the profile of sport and physical activity – will stage a seminar at University Academy Keighley (UAK) on May 30.

Among those to address the event are Keighley MP Kris Hopkins and Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity.

Other speakers include John Dennis, of ABP, and Liz Barker, of the community engagement group Worth the Tour.

An ABP spokesman said: “We are keen to link into Yorkshire’s strategy both in terms of bringing the Tour to Yorkshire and the wider legacy of increasing visitor numbers.

“It’s important to emphasise the significance of centres like Bradford and Keighley as gateways to the large natural ‘playground’ that is the South Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.

“The event in Keighley will draw a varied audience of business people, key agencies and overseas contacts, as well as many people who are currently involved with the Tour preparations.”

There will also be an open forum, lunch and refreshments. There will also be an optional afternoon tour of UAK’s facilities.

The event runs from 9am to 1.30pm and costs £15, with £5 student concessions. Visit eventbrite.com/e/tourism-sport-physical-activity-active-bradford-partner ship-tickets-11266222575 to register.
