Haworth tourist officers are spinning a good yarn about the Tour de France.

They want district residents to knit triangles to be used as bunting in the village’s Visitor Information Centre.

Staff are giving away free yellow yarn, which can be turned into bunting in the traditional colour of the race leader’s jersey.

The Tour de France’s Grand Depart will pass by the information centre on July 6 after the cyclists have climbed up Main Street.

Patricia Tillotson, Bradford Council’s visitor economy manager, said: “Texere yarns are supporting the project by supplying free yarn, which is now available from our centres.

“If that runs out, we have additional yarn available to buy at a discounted price.”

If knitters have spare wool in another colour they would like to knit into bunting, staff will accept those triangles too.

Completed bunting triangles can be taken to Visitor Information Centres in West Lane, Haworth; Ilkley Town Hall; Salts Mill in Saltaire, and Britannia House in Bradford.

They can also be posted to Bradford Visitor Information Centre, Britannia House, Broadway, Bradford BD1 1JF. Full details and a free knitting pattern can be found on the visitbradford.com/bunting website.
