Keighley knitters have banded together to take action against nuclear weapons.
They assembled at the Quaker Meeting House in Skipton Road to take part in a campaign that will culminate in the creation of a seven-mile-long pink coloured ‘peace scarf’.
The Keighley group met on Saturday afternoon to display some of their knitted items.
Peace campaigner, Sylvia Boyes, said: “People are knitting pieces in all shades of pink – 100 centimetres by 60 centimetres – both individually and in groups all over the country and further afield.
“This is in preparation for a gathering, which will produce a pink peace scarf seven miles long, to stretch from the atomic weapons establishments between Burghfield and Aldermaston in Berkshire.
“This will take place on August 9 – the anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki in 1945. A coach will be taking local campaigners to Aldermaston, picking up at Keighley. After the event, the pieces will be dismantled and made into blankets, to be distributed where needed.”
