An arson attack outside a house in Highfield, Keighley, last night left gutters and window frames ruined.

A gas meter was also badly damaged after rubbish was deliberately set alight at the end-terrace in Cartmel Road.

Firefighters in Keighley and Bingley put out the blaze before it spread to the inside of the terraced house.

A spokesman for Keighley Fire Station said his team was alerted at 11.15pm.

He said: “People are doing some renovations at this property, so there was a lot of rubbish outside. Someone had set light to it.

“This could potentially have been a really bad house fire. We managed to make sure it didn’t spread.”

Gas engineers were called to make the gas meter safe.
