A 72-YEAR-OLD cyclist has completed an epic ride to Rome to raise money for Manorlands.

Barry Hopkinson tackled the gruelling journey in memory of his late wife, Carole, who was cared for at the Oxenhope hospice.

He said in a tweet that he was delighted to reach the Italian capital, after covering over 1,500 miles.

Mr Hopkinson has raised £7,230 through his justgiving website alone.

"Carole benefited from the wonderful care and expertise given at Manorlands – they were outstanding, " he said.

"She always had a smile on her face and felt so comfortable and secure there."

A Manorlands spokesman said: "We would like to say a huge congratulations and 'well done' to Barry on a fantastic effort."

Mr Hopkinson is now planning for his next challenge, a coast-to-coast bike ride in August.
