FRIENDS, neighbours and family members have all come up with ideas to boost the fund to help little Connor Wrighton to see.
The tiny tot’s mother Lisa said the family had received “loads of offers of help” in their bid to raise about £13,000 for medical treatment overseas for him.
As reported in last week’s Keighley News, doctors recently found that Connor, who was born at the end of November last year, has optic atrophy, which means he is totally blind.
But pioneering stem cell treatment could eventually give him enough vision to see shapes.
Mum Lisa and dad Nathan – who is formerly of Oxenhope and Silsden and an ex-student of South Craven School, Cross Hills – have started a drive to raise the money to pay for his treatment at clinics in either China, Ukraine or the US. They have already organised a fundraising dinner at Skipton’s Rendezvous Hotel, on Friday, August 22, and have now been told that they can run a cake stall at Cowling Gala on July 26, with all proceeds going to the appeal.
Lisa said: “It’s been absolutely great how everyone’s got behind us right away.
“We’ve had lots of offers to bake cakes for the gala stall and lots of people have been weighing in with ideas for other things we can do. They’ve been brilliant.”
Lisa’s sister Michelle and her friend Becky are to do a sponsored skydive later in the summer and the family has set up a Facebook page, HelpConnor, through which hundred of pounds have already been donated.
Treatment for Connor is likely to cost around £10,000, while around £3,000 will be needed for accommodation and living expenses for the family during the course, likely to last around three weeks.
Lisa explained: “We are still trying to decide what is the best medical procedure for Connor and therefore which company in which country is best to to go with. The procedures do vary, so we have to decide what we think is the least stressful and likely to achieve the best results for him.”
Tickets for the dinner at the Rendezvous are £25 each for two courses, including entertainment, and are available from the hotel or by phoning Lisa on 07989 242657. Donations to the appeal can be made via the Facebook page link to PayPal: firstname.lastname@example.org.
