A WHEELCHAIR-bound disabled man and his wife were knocked to the floor by a car which then fled the scene.

The man was being pushed across the road at the mini-roundabout junction of Cullingworth Gate and Haworth Road, Cullingworth, yesterday afternoon, when the incident happened.

He suffered cuts to his head and hand. His wife was uninjured, but deeply shocked.

They were struck by a blue car, possibly a Mercedes, which was travelling downhill on Manywells Brow from the direction of Denholme.

The vehicle did not stop immediately but pulled-up further towards Cullingworth village centre, before setting off towards Bingley.

A registration number was obtained but is believed to be incorrect, after attempts to trace the vehicle failed.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened at 4.55pm, to come forward.

PC Tim Harding, of the western area roads policing unit, said: "If anyone saw what happened or has information which could help us trace the vehicle, then please get in touch on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
