A TEENAGER is to walk the Pennine Way to raise money for the Airedale Hospital Emergency Department Appeal.

Tom Crossley, 15, aims to complete the 268-mile route – linking Derbyshire and the Scottish Borders – over three weeks this summer.

He will be accompanied during different parts of the challenge by his mum, Airedale Hospital A&E consultant Dr Meg Crossley, and his grandfather John Asher.

Tom will be training with Mr Asher this Sunday (June 15), Father's Day.

Dr Crossley said: "Tom and dad have been planning to do some training walks for a while and as I’m working on Father’s Day, it's a good opportunity for the two of them to go out together.

"They have been enjoying walks together since Tom was little.

"My dad and I will be going along to support Tom on part of his journey this summer."

Dr Crossley is urging others to don their walking boots in support of the appeal.

“We are asking anyone who is interested in walking to consider getting involved in fundraising for the appeal by taking part in – or organising – their own sponsored walk,” she said.
