SLIMMERS from across the district have donated their unwanted clothes to Cancer Research UK.

Members of Slimming World's Haworth, Keighley, Long Lee and Oakworth groups have spring-cleaned their wardrobes for the cause.

Nearly 40 bags of items have been donated, which together could raise as much as £1,000 for the charity.

The effort is part of a national fundraising campaign for Cancer Research UK, which is Slimming World’s chosen charity this year.

Carla Weatherill, who runs the Long Lee and Keighley Slimming World groups, said: "My members, along with Andrea Astin’s Haworth and Oakworth groups, have really embraced this fabulous fundraising campaign and have been more than happy to donate their ‘big’ clothes because they know that they’re never going to need them again!

“One in three of us is affected by cancer and being overweight increases the risk of developing it, so we’re determined to do anything we can do to help fight the disease.

"I’m delighted that my members are always keen to pull together and support good causes. Cancer touches so many people’s lives, so most people are keen to contribute."

Jeanette Boyle, who manages a Cancer Research UK shop in the district, said: “We welcome clothes and items of all shapes, sizes and styles and were absolutely thrilled to receive such a huge donation of clothing from the local Slimming World groups.

"It’s wonderful to be able to help celebrate the amazing weight losses and improvements to health that members achieve and we’re delighted they’ve chosen to use their slimming success to raise money for us."
