PART time fire fighters at Haworth Fire Station have been issued with "at risk of redundancy" letters.

A total of 12 retained fire fighters currently work at the premises, which is due to close as a retained station at the end of this year.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire Service said: "A full range of redeployment opportunities will be discussed individually with each of the fire fighters and other opportunities will be provided where possible.

"If fire fighters wish to move to other retained stations within West Yorkshire they will be supported by relocation packages to assist them in their move."

Director of service support, assistant chief officer Steve Rhodes, added: “West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's human resources department and Bradford District management are currently in the process of discussing a range of redeployment and relocation options with the fire fighters at Haworth.”

In May of this year, local parish councillors agreed to back a plan to turn Haworth’s fire station into a community-run safety hub for the Worth Valley.

This would involve creating a volunteer-run service that would be trained in fire prevention. The building would also become a base for neighbourhood policing and for Calderdale Hill Rescue Service.
