ARTISTS and musicians are clamouring to take part in Haworth Festival.

Many of those who took part in this year’s event asked whether they could return for performances next summer.

Several other performers also approached organisers during festival events asking whether they could join the roster for 2015.

Festival chairman John Sargent revealed the interest as he spoke about the success of this year’s 10-day jamboree.

He said: “The festival went really well and has been described as a resounding success.

“Most events were very well attended from the first night onwards, and the variety of events was inspirational.

“Everyone found something to enjoy. Several events were sold out and others all had great attendances.”

The festival featured comedy, drama, storytelling and music, along with the Haworth Ukelele Group Extravaganza (HUGE) and an appearance by broadcaster Andy Kershaw.

There was also a Gin Festival, a Heart Trail, an Art Trail, and the return of the popular Zombie Run.

Mr Sargent said the festival audience was made up of a mixture of local people and visitors, with people travelling from across the UK and even the USA and France.

He said: “The organising committee would like to thank everyone who took part in making it such a great time for the village.

“There seemed to be a special buzz about the festival which clearly built on the successes of last year.

“We are sure that next year will see another increase in activity and attendance.”

Mr Sargent said the committee was already talking about the format of Haworth Festival for 2015 and what possible funding opportunities there might be.

He said: “Sponsorship of this increasingly successful event is one avenue that we are considering.”

Mr Sargent said the last few days of the festival saw a hilarious comedy night with Patrick Monahan, and an astonishing gig featuring Em Sargant and Waiting for Wednesday.

He added: “Annie Drury headlined a great gig on Friday night with Spence as support.

“There was a massive turn out for the Haworth Ukulele Group Extravaganza.

“There were various other music events in churches, pubs and on the new bandstand, and the festival ended on Sunday night with a great gig featuring Jacobean Ruff from Leeds and local singer Rosa Sargent.”
