WILSDEN Gala has been hailed as a resounding success followed its comeback event on Sunday.

The first Wilsden Gala in two years adopted the theme of ‘W’ with witches, wasps, weathermen and Wolverines visible in the procession.

Lisa Firth, one of the organisers, said: “The sun shone, the band played and villagers turned out in droves.

“All the costumes were brilliant and it was very hard to choose the fancy dress prize winners.

“This year’s event was organised by a brand new committee, who should all be very proud of what they managed to achieve.”

Gala queen Lucy Hutchinson wore a handmade dress made by gala committee member Linda Lancaster.

Lucy, with attendants Vienna Welthy and Archie Morgan, was crowned by the Harden gala queen.

The new home of the gala, Wilsden cricket field, hosted entertainment including birds of prey, dancers from Jennifer’s Dancekool, taekwondo, clog dancing and children’s races.

Attractions included Splat the Rat, Play Your Cards Right, Guess the Name of the Teddy, a bouncy slide, rides and a barbecue by local butcher Richard Arend L..

Lisa added: “a number of stalls by local artisans sold everything from gorgeous cupcakes to handmade softy toys.

“Punters were queuing up to dip their hand in the gooey slime tombola – a great way to cool down! And loom band kits were a sellout hit.”
