THE parents of a young man who died in a crash in South Craven have paid tribute to their "kind and considerate" son.

Andrew Christopher Flannagan, 20, died when his Alfa Romeo 147 was involved in a collision with another car on the A629 between Kildwick and Cononley.

The accident happened at around 3pm on Saturday, July 19, when the light blue Alfa Romeo – travelling towards Skipton – and a silver Peugeot 407 heading in the opposite direction were in collision.

The four occupants of the Peugeot, from Preston, all sustained injuries.

An inquest into Andrew's death is due to be opened and adjourned in the next few days.

His mum, Angela George, said: “Andrew was well loved by all his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him and whose hearts he touched.

“He was a kind and considerate young man, of whom we are very proud.

“We would like to thank all of the people, both young and old, who have offered such kind thoughts about Andrew, and those who have given us so much support, in particular his special friend Connor and girlfriend Cassy and the congregations at Skipton and Settle Jehovah's Witnesses.”

Andrew’s dad, Derek Flannagan, said: “I am very proud of Andrew. He was a fine young man who will also be greatly missed by his brothers Mark and Craig.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and have posted signs on the bends near the crash scene and at Cononley Lane Ends junction, which has consistently ranked among the worst accident blackspots in Craven.

Several witnesses have come forward who were travelling behind the Peugeot, but police investigators also want to speak to anyone who saw the movements of the car driven by Andrew, fromLong Preston.
