MEMBERS of the Keighley Friends of Al-Aqsa group picketed the town's Sainsbury's Supermarket as part of a wider protest aimed at boycotting Israeli-made goods.

The demonstration outside the store took place on August 22 and August 25.

A spokesman for Friends of Al-Aqsa Keighley said the action had been a peaceful picket, designed to hold Israel accountable for human rights violations against Palestinians.

He added: "We are boycotting Israeli produce and kindly asking members of the public to check the product labels of the goods they are buying to enable them to do the same.

"Such civil action is necessary because governments around the world with the power to intervene have repeatedly failed to utilise international legal apparatus to hold Israel to account for its crimes.

"Sainsbury’s promotes itself as an ethical company with fair trade credentials, which it promotes at every opportunity. It even markets itself as the market leader in fair trade.

"We want to make it clear that we're not calling for a boycott of Sainsbury’s. We are boycotting goods from Israel and the illegally occupied settlements in Palestine."
