A DETERMINED pupil who managed to sit her GCSE's despite recovering from a major spinal operation was among the students receiving their results at South Craven School.
Lucy Brown, from Sutton, suffered from a condition called scoliosis, and underwent an operation to straighten her spine at Leeds General Infirmary on April 11, just three weeks before her exams.
She refused to admit defeat, and ended up taking her exams in bed with the invigilators coming to her home. She gained seven GCSEs at grades A to C.
She said she was able to complete most of the work on a laptop, and passed all the exams she needed to move onto the sixth form.
Her proud mum, Jan Brown, who accompanied her to school to pick up her results, said: "It was a massive operation on her spine. She was in agony and having to take pain killers every four hours."
