A CABARET evening raised over £2,000 for Manorlands.

More than 300 people attended the event, at the Octagon in Sandbeds.

Many of those present were from the 130 families that Brian Langford and his team at Powell and Family Funeral Directors had supported during the past year.

Mr Langford provided the food for the evening, helped by John and Caroline Carhart, who donated a hog roast.

And two sisters – Maria Bagarozza and Antoinette Rowland – who were celebrating their 65th and 60th birthdays respectively, contributed some Italian food.

Over 80 members of the Italian community attended.

The venue was provided by John and Josie Pennington.

Cabaret included the KYDZ youth theatre group, a band and international violinist Jonathon Carney.

There was also dancing and a raffle.

Mr Langford said: "The support we need to give to the staff at Manorlands and for the work they do for our community is so important.

"It is amazing how many people donate their time and money so freely to support this cause.

"The atmosphere on the night was tremendous."

Andrew Wood, a Sue Ryder fundraiser based at the Oxenhope hospice, said: "These events are very popular and raise a tremendous amount.

"We are really grateful to all at Powell and Family, the Octagon and everyone else involved in organising and supporting them."
