AMATEUR bakers are being encouraged to demonstrate their skills in Stanbury later this month.

The Great Stanbury Harvest Festival bake off is taking place in St Gabriel's Church on Saturday September 20.

Competitors will display their creations from 12.30pm to 1pm, with judging taking place from 1pm to 1.30pm. At 6.30pm there will be evening entertainment featuring "songs from the shows".

Admission to the evening event is £5 for adults and £2 for children under 10. The cost includes a glass of wine or soft drink and a hot supper. Proceeds will go towards St Gabriel's Church and Stanbury Village Society.

People can take part in the baking contest by paying £1 for the first item they enter and 20 pence each for further items.

Categories include: best traditional cake, best pie, best scone, best cup cake, best home grown produce, best preserve and best home brew. There is also a best egg section, an under 14s section and a pet competition.
