FIVE jobs are under threat in Keighley after the Phones 4u retail chain plunged into administration.

Lights were on at the store, in the Airedale Shopping Centre, today.

But there were no signs of life through the locked doors.

Nationally about 5,500 staff could lose their jobs after EE joined Vodafone in cutting ties with Phones 4u, which sells contracts on behalf of the network operators.

PwC has been appointed as administrators for the company, which has an annual turnover of £1 billion and operates from more than 700 outlets.

Phones 4u also runs its own network operator, Life Mobile Limited, which is also in administration.

Steve Seymour, manager of the Airedale Shopping Centre, said: "Our thoughts are with the staff at Phones 4u at this difficult time.

"The decision to go into administration was taken at national level and is not a reflection on the situation at the shopping centre, where there is great optimism for the future.

"We recently welcomed the latest addition to our retailers, Trespass, which is proving very popular with our shoppers."
