SUTTON, chasing the Division Two title, must have been fearing the worst when their game at Wilsden was the only one in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League not to be completed.

The point they gained seemed unlikely to take them ahead of fellow promoted side Chatburn.

But the Lancashire side choose the last weekend to turn in possibly their worst performance of the season.

Playing Oakworth II at Clitheroe, Chatburn restricted the opposition to 113 as Steve Powell made 33 but the Ribble Valley side were then knocked over for 65 as Ben Howell claimed 5-11.

Doug Richardson hit 73 of the Windy Grove side's 200, with Richard Walker taking 5-59, and the Royd Hill men had made 115-4 before the weather turned, the point Sutton won being enough to give them the title.

Airedale clinched the second promotion spot in Division Three with a fine 81-run triumph over Haworth West End at Bradford Road.

Since taking the title, Gargrave's form has been disappointing. At Cononley, they made a moderate124, with Ben Howlett scoring 29 as Herbie Starkey took 4-29.

Starkey then made 33 to go with Andrew Starkey's 42 as the home side got home by seven wickets.

Denholme II are champions of Division Four after they saw off Oakworth III by six wickets at Bronte Fields.

Eldwick & Gilstead's victory at Riddlesden II saw them draw level with the Grange Road side on 42 points each. However, it is the hosts who move up a division on run rate.

Hepworth & Idle II, who were in the running for promotion for a long time, lost again, this time by nine wickets at Crossflatts II.

That victory means Crossflatts leapfrog both Haworth II and Ingrow II, who are both relegated.

The terrific tussle at the top of Division Five ended with Chatburn II as champions. Gargrave II are also promoted, while Sutton II agonisingly miss out by one point.
