CYCLISTS from in and around Keighley rode 170-miles for Cancer Research UK.

15 cyclists set off from Morecambe on the west coast, with two more riders joining them on the second day to complete the coast-to-coast route at Bridlington.

Among the riders was 51-year-old Eldwick man John Beaumont, who is currently undergoing radiotherapy to treat cancer. He has previously had three major operations and chemotherapy. He and the other cyclists, who set off at 9am on September 13 and finished at 4.15pm the following day, raised more than £3,000 for their chosen good cause.

Darren Wilson, owner of local firm Keighley Auto Painting, which is based in Beecher Street, also took part in the cycle ride.

"It was a fantastic weekend, an unforgettable experience," he said. "I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to cycle with, and the weather couldn't have been better. It wasn't too hot or cold.

"We definitely want to do something like this again, and make it a regular event.

"John was unbelievable. He's half way through his radiotherapy and he was knackered by the second day, but he's a very strong-minded chap. He wasn't going to give up, and he was able to finish the cycle."
