A KEIGHLEY gym raised nearly £300 to help a young Keighley boy who is battling an aggressive form of cancer.

People who attend Frank's Gym, in Devonshire Street, raised the cash by taking part in a series of sponsored physical challenges at the gym.

The proceeds will be going towards the Callum Ingham appeal. Callum, nine, who is from Parkwood, is currently undergoing a seven-month course of treatment in Leeds for neuroblastoma.

His cancer had been in remission earlier this year, but two new growths were diagnosed in his body last month. (August) As the life-saving treatment he needs is not available on the NHS his family and friends have been trying to raise half a million pounds to send him to America for treatment.

Gym committee member Jeff Sharp said the idea to raise the money for Callum had come from Frank Haigh, who first founded the gym in 1947.

Mr Sharp added: "We've been doing these fundraising activities for the last couple of months. Activities such as how long you can hang from a bar and a bench press challenge.

"We're a community gym and everyone took to it. We ran the challenges as a bit of a competition."
