A HAWORTH woman whose mother died of motor neurone disease was joined by an Oxenhope woman for a freezing cold fundraiser to help fight this disease.

Sarah Falkingham, whose mum Margaret Burke died in 2005, along with Oxenhope resident Cathy Wilkins volunteered to travel through Haworth on a horse and cart, with people soaking them with ice cold water at six different stopping stops.

Their somewhat different version of the ice bucket challenge raised about £400 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. (MND) The pair travelled up Rawdon Road and down Main Street on Sunday September 14 and bravely endured eight separate soakings. The horse and cart were provided by Cathy's brother Keith.

Sarah said: "We stopped outside every pub and also at the church steps to be drenched with large buckets of iced water on the way down Main Street.

"This madness was to raise money in memory of my mum Margaret who passed away in January 2005 of motor neurone disease. She was 67.

"When she passed away I set up a tribute fund in her name with the MND.

"Any money I raise goes to fund much-needed equipment for people who suffer from this rapid progressive disease."

Sarah, 42, added: "I want to thank everyone who supported us in this event. We had amazing support from the village and everyone had fun.

"I'd also like to thank Cathy, as I don't know how she got roped into this! She has helped to raise a lot of money and I could not have done it without her."
