A CHEQUE for over £1,100 has been served up to Manorlands thanks to a charity evening at a Keighley restaurant.

The event – at Alfes, in Church Street – was organised by the Silver Star Stompers line dancing team and staff from Keighley's now-closed Beales store.

A proportion of the evening's takings went to Manorlands and there was a tombola.

Andrew Wood, a Sue Ryder fundraiser based at the Oxenhope hospice, paid tribute to those involved.

And he said the event had been especially poignant for the Beales colleagues.

"In the eight years I’ve been fundraising at Manorlands, Alfes and Beales have been two of our most loyal supporting businesses and we really appreciate their generosity," said Mr Wood.

"This event was tinged with sadness for some of the people attending because it was their leaving event, with the Hanover Street Beales store about to close.

"That said it was a very upbeat night and they did such a good job for us raising much needed funds for our care.”
