A THREE-DAY street market and a mini children's funfair were the highlights of this year's Keighley Oktoberfest celebration.

Last weekend's event was organised by members of Keighley Town Council, with the market itself provided by Bradford Council.

The market stalls were present in Low Street last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and featured a selection of food products, a pet stall, jewellery and other gift items.

Acting town clerk, Debbie Spink, said: "The market was very good and we had lovely weather on the Saturday, which is when we held the street entertainment.

"We had Jens Hislop's oompah band, Bingley and Haworth Ukulele Group and members of the Play Rangers team who were putting on activities for the kids.

"We also had sumo wrestling suits provided by High Adventure, a small children's funfair from Marshalls, a street organ and a Punch and Judy Show."

She said in future she would like to see the street market stalls extended further up Low Street to entice more people to sample the entertainment on offer in Church Green.

"There could have been more people on Church Green, as it is a very nice spot," she said. "At the moment there is a bit of a gap between the market and the green so ideally we'd like that to be linked up."
