PARISH councillors in Haworth recommended plans to build five new homes in the village should be rejected.
They said the application for land near Parkside Social Club, in Butt Lane, was a site designated for allotments and should remain so.
The members of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council also said the new properties would be out of character with the area.
The applicant wants to build a terrace of five, three-bedroom houses, each of which would have two parking spaces
An agent acting for the applicant has argued: "We consider that five dwellings for this site is the optimum number and offers the local planning authority five much-needed additional dwellings, in view of the current significant shortfall of housing stock in the Bradford area."
Parish council chairman, Councillor John Huxley, said: "We do want to look into using this particular site for allotments. We currently have a huge waiting list for allotment spaces in Haworth."
The application will now be decided by Bradford Council planners.
