A COMMEMORATIVE stone honouring those who died in the First World War has been dedicated.
Around 60 people attended the ceremony at the St Ives estate, Harden.
Organisers went ahead with the event despite the failure to grow so far of a poppy field planned at the site.
Instead, artificial poppies supplied by the British Legion were planted for the event.
"The day went very well – the sun shone and the whole event was extremely poignant," said Friends of St Ives chairman, Pam Laking.
The Rev Bob Evans blessed the stone, which had been provided by the Co-operative memorial company at Nab Wood, and a buglar played the Last Post.
Harden Parish Council clerk Eve Haskins read out the names of men from the village who had fought in the Great War.
And Kath Gabbitas – of the Friends of St Ives – recounted the story of Stafford Ferrand, a member of the family which owned the estate, who was awarded the Military Cross.
A poem, In Flanders Fields, was read by Mark Potts from Co-op Funeralcare.
