A COUNCILLOR and a retired deputy head formally launched a new facility built at a Keighley school to boost its community engagement work.
Coun Kaneez Akthar and Liz Docwra, who are both also governors at Holycroft Primary cut a ribbon officially opening the Family Learning Hub at the school last Tuesday afternoon. (Oct 7)
The hub will be used to host literacy and numeracy programmes, vocational learning sessions, pre-school courses for young mums and a range of recreational activities. The building is located in the school's playground and has already been used to stage a series of coffee mornings.
The one-storey building includes a kitchen, a toilet, a central study and group learning area, a creche and an office.
Commenting on the launch, Holycroft's assistant head teacher Paul Kempster said: "It was excellent. Our parents have already seen the hub, but it was the first time for some of the other guests. A lot of the people there hadn't seen the building before, and the feedback we had on it was very good.
"Our head teacher Andrew Neal delivered a short speech filling in the background to how the hub came to be developed and why we've built it.
"Coun Kaneez Akthar and Liz Docwra cut the ribbon and we served food."
