CONCERNS raised by Keighley people have been passed to the agents for a proposed new cemetery near Keighley Tarn.

Local councillors Adrian Farley and Jan Smithies last week met representatives from the Mineral Planning Group (MPG).

The company is acting for the landowners of the site at the former Robinson’s quarry and tip site off Black Hill Road.

The councillors, who represent Keighley West Ward on Bradford Council, said they raised a wide range of concerns passed to them by local residents.

These included drainage and water run-off, ecology, road safety, possible loss of trees, and spoiling of the scenery around the tarn.

Coun Smithies said MPG had revealed it was carrying out detailed studies, including habitat, ecology and hydrology, and planning policy.

She said: “Once all of these studies are completed and a formal planning application is submitted MPG plan to run an open drop-in event in the area.”

Both councillors welcomed the plans for wider consultation and were pleased that MPG had acknowledged residents’ concerns and were carrying out the studies.

MPG said the development of the brownfield site would help meet a shortage of cemetery space.
