CARERS in Keighley will be given greater support thanks to a charity’s new £3 million scheme.

Carers’ Resource hopes its Integrated Carers’ Service will find hidden carers across Bradford district.

The charity already runs sessions in areas including Steeton to provide activities for people who care for their relatives.

Carers’ Resource was awarded a £3 million contract, with funding jointly from the NHS and Bradford Council.

The charity plans to forge stronger links with GPs and health professionals to identify carers. There will be a central hub with spokes feeding into the community in a bid to reach carers earlier and give tailor-made support.

This will enable them to continue their caring role, while having the opportunity for social and leisure activities.

Carers’ Resource director, Anne Smyth, said: “We can give carers the support they need. to help make what can be an overwhelming role that little bit more manageable. Caring can be such an isolating role, as it can be hands on, 24/7, and this can cause depression, anxiety, health issues and have a massive impact on a carer’s wellbeing.”
